Heads should roll at the GLC over leakage of Law School exams  – Ansah Asare

Pressure is mounting on the Ghana’s General Legal Council to investigate the circumstance under which some examination questions of the Ghana School of Law entrance exams were leaked to some students. Ahead of the writing of the examination, the compulsory question and a marking scheme were circulated among some students, especially those who wrote the paper at the New N Block and the Central Cafeteria of the University of Ghana last Friday. At least dozens of students have confessed receiving the question before writing the exam. The leak comes on the back of allegations of ineptitude against the General Legal Council in its administration of legal education in the country. Some students who did not receive the questions, which later circulated on social media, have intensified calls for the cancellation of the paper, arguing fairness has been compromised. [caption id="attachment_54612" align="aligncenter" width="564"] The Ghana School of Law[/caption] U.S based Ghanaian lawyer, Professor Kweku Asare and Director of Mountcrest University College, Kwaku Ansah-Asare have both called for the cancelation of the results and the scraping of the General Legal Council. Speaking to 3FM Monday, Mr. Ansah-Asare who was a former Director of the Ghana School of Law, expressed surprise at the way Council is handling the case of the leaked exam paper. “For now, I’m surprised the council has not issued any statement,” he said, adding, “If we are a serious nation, heads should start rolling”. He wondered who leaked the paper and urged that an investigation is conducted to establish the source of the leak and those behind it. “Who leaked the questions, who prepared the marking scheme, who was responsible for the answers and what was the source of the leakage? We haven’t heard anything from the Ghana Legal Council and this must be considered an embarrassment. It’s a shame,” he added. He said those responsible for the leakage must be made to face the law. Meanwhile, a member of the Inter Law Faculty Students Union, Yaa Asantewaa Opoku, herself a candidate affirmed the leakage. She said: “I think a day or two before the exams we saw some of these things flying everywhere and even few minutes to the exams, you hear people mentioning names that when we went into [exam hall] there were the exact names that were used in the exams” She said the union would submit a petition to the Chief Justice, the General Legal Council, the President and the Attorney General on Tuesday after a formal press conference to ask for a cancellation of the exam as well as the dissolution of the independent exam council.
