Gunshots fired to disrupt voting at Ayawaso, six injured

Two of the injured seen by our correspondent[/caption] Gunshots have been fired at the La Bawaleshie Presbyterian Basic 1 School in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra where a by-election is currently ongoing to elect a new member of parliament. Six persons were said to have been shot, leaving some with critical injuries, witnesses told TV3 correspondent Evelyn Tengmaa a while ago One person allegedly shot in the right leg was seen being put in the bucket of a pick up vehicle while another one who had injuries to the head was seen lying on the ground. The incident happened just about two hours into voting which commenced peacefully at the polling station A group of masked armed men, who are said to be national security operatives, arrived in pick-up vehicles at the polling station. They were said to have moved from the polling station to a house behind it said to belong to the NDC candidate in the by-election Delali Kwasi Brempong, where they allegedly ordered the occupants of the storey-building to come down.“We were here [and] before we realised they came and ordered: ‘everybody get, down get down!’ and started shooting”. [caption id="attachment_112548" align="aligncenter" width="900"] The house where the attack happened[/caption] Mr. Brempong was out of the house at the time.According to the witnesses, the assailants after the shooting incident removed keys in all the vehicles which were parked in the compound of the house. Witnesses showed our correspondent bullet holes on the wall of a building to buttress their claim while blood stains were also found on the ground at the scene. Heavily armed police-cum-military personnel have since arrived at the scene to quell the situation. “The Police is managing the situation; we will make sure we stabilise the situation, Greater Accra Police Operations  Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Fori, said at the scene. MP for Prampram who has been at the constituency to monitor the by-election claimed he was assaulted by some persons in national security vests.

“I have just been assaulted by several members of the NPP Invicible Forces attired in national security shirts and vests,” he posted on Facebook a while ago.
