Gov’t to pay another judgment over excavators

The Government of Ghana is going to pay another judgement debt to the tune of $15.3million for the unlawful seizure of excavators.

This comes after a Kumasi High Court awarded the judgement debt against the government in favour of mining company, Heritage Imperial Limited.

Heritage’s concession was raided by the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on Illegal Mining (Glamsley) with the exzcuse that they went beyond their limit, on December 6, 2018.

Lawyers for the company argued that they procured a prospecting mining licence from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on October 25, 2018.

The court, in its ruling on May 18, 2021, said it considered the action against Heritage Imperial Mining Company as unlawful.

It added that no evidence had been advanced by the task force to back their claims of illegality on the company’s part.
