Former President Mahama and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said by faith he is against LGBTQ.

The Former President clearly stated his stance on the controversial subject while addressing a gathering of clergymen in the Eastern Region.

“I believe in my faith, and my faith is against LGBTQ; I am an Assemblies of God member,” he said, adding, “This is because the faith I have does not support gay marriages.”

The former president therefore called on the government to work with parliament to ensure the private member’s bill, the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, which is currently before parliament, is passed.

Former President Mahama, however, cast doubt on President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to assent to the LGBTQ bill.

“Government will not assent to the [LGBTQ] bill, which is yet to be passed. The government, through the Attorney General, has made it clear that a private member’s bill due to its financial implications will not be assent to even when it is passed,” former president Mahama added.

MORE ON BUILDING GHANA TOUR:

Meanwhile, the Former President suggested that the legislature and the executive should work together to ensure certain clauses that impose financial burdens can be removed.

“Parliament and the executive can review the bill and where it puts a charge on the government and remove the same,” the NDC presidential candidate stated.

“This opens the way for the president to be happy to sign the agreement. So I do not support LGBTQ. A man is a man, and a woman is a woman,” he reiterated.

The Former President is on a two-day tour in the Eastern Region dubbed the “Building Ghana Tour,” where he has been engaging with party members, executives, and traditional leaders.

Mr. Mahama also sold out his 24-hour economic policy to the people of the Eastern Region.
