The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has directed the suspension of the payment of salaries of 800 teachers in the Northern Region.

The OSP took the decision after identifying infractions and subsequently commencing investigations into the matter.

But the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah Tanko who disclosed this exclusively to our labour correspondent Daniel Opoku has given the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the OSP five working days to ensure the salaries are paid or risk agitations.

“At the school level, there are standing protocols the heads of the institutions validate before the teacher is paid, in the northern region now, tensions are building up, we want to tell the employer that under the labour law, you keep the communication lines open, if by close of next week Friday, the salaries are not paid, the OSP and GES must blame themselves,” Mr Tanko stressed.
