The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Thursday morning foiled a planned protest by final year students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) over some decisions regarding their final examination. The students do not understand why the school authorities have resolved to make them write their examination at the school’s dining hall instead of the classrooms. According to the students, the dining is not convenient for the writing of the exams. They are also not happy with what they deem as ‘expensive’ registration fee for their NVTI examinations. The students were massing up to demonstrate against the school authority for failing to heed to their concerns, but a swiftly intervention by the Ashanti regional minister averted the planned protest. Simon Osei Mensah asked the Students Representative Council (SRC) to submit their grievances to his office latest by Monday, October 29 for possible redress. The Minister also advised the students to always channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress rather than resorting to violent protest. SRC President at KTI, Samuel Opoku Adjei, commended the regional minister for his intervention. Meanwhile, several police personnel have been deployed to the school to ensure law and order.
