The Chief Executive for the Akrofuom District, Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, has honored the outgoing District Director of Education, George Sarfo Kantanka, for his outstanding leadership and contributions towards the development of education in the District.
The DCE presented a piece of cloth and a citation to Mr. Sarfo Kantanka in a short ceremony at Akrofuom.
The event was witnessed by members of the District Education Oversight committee, teachers and students of the Akrofuom R/C School.
Commenting on the legacies of the outgoing District Director of Education, Dr. Woode said George Sarfo Kantanka has been a key figure in positioning the district as a force to reckon with in the Region.
He said the Education Director throughout the period, has forged a strong bond with teachers in the District, an attribute that has brought the best out of the teachers.
“The District in the past had shortage of teachers but when Mr. Sarfo Kantanka came, he has been actively involved in the posting of teachers here who hitherto refused to be posted here. Just the beginning of this term, over 50 teachers have been posted to the Akrofuom district.”
The DCE added the Director of Education during his term of office initiated the establishment of Technical and Vocational Centers at Amponyase, a collaborative effort between the Assembly and the Church of Pentecost.
Again, through the initiative of George Sarfo Kantanka, another Technical and Vocational Center will soon be set up at Adamso, in collaboration with the Methodist Church while another one at Yaadome with Birmingham will soon start
He commended him for the legacies he has left behind and stressed that the incoming Director of Education will have a huge shoe to fill, stressing the Assembly will continue to offer their support to the incoming District Director of Education.
The DCE talked about the importance of education as a key part of his vision to improve the living conditions of the people in the district.
“Education is the bedrock of development hence countries like Japan, Singapore have invested heavily in education and it is what is motivating the Assembly to pay particular attention to improving education in the district.”
Donation
The Akrofuom District has remained resolute in its quest to promote ICT education.
Led by the District Chief Executive, the Assembly has spearheaded the distribution of desktops, laptops and computer accessories to schools.
The DCE through German-based Labdoo, has previously distributed 32 desktops and laptops to some schools in the District as well as Obuasi Senior High Technical School, his alma mater.
Dr. Woode has once again donated 9 desktops and 2 laptops to the District ICT center at the Akrofuom R/C JHS to add to the pool of computers in the center.
This he said is a demonstration of the Assembly’s unwavering support towards making ICT an important subject in the district.
“We are focused on making the teaching and learning of ICT easier among teachers and students in the district.”
On his part, the outgoing District Director of Education George Sarfo Kantanka credited the Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive, Members of the District Education Oversight committee, traditional leaders and Assembly members for the feet he chalked in the directorate in the short period.
He was optimistic that with the work done by stakeholders, the future of education in the district remains brighter and urged authorities to continue to work harder and commit to supporting education in the district.
He commended the DCE for his efforts in improving the study of ICT in the district.
He said government has introduced SMART classroom learning technology which needed computers to enhance the programme.
“The DCE through his innovation has been distributing computers in the district hence the Roman Catholic School in Akrofuom has been designated ICT center in the district. We hope to get more of the computers to assist in ICT education.”
