Residents at Feyiase on the Lake Bosomtwe road in the Ashanti Region woke up to the shock of their lives Tuesday when they realised a tree planted by the legendary Okomfo Anokye has been felled.

From images made available to 3news.com, the tree was deliberately felled.

It was cut at the trunk close to the base with barks spread on the floor.

No person or persons were seen to have carried out the act.

According to sources, Asantehene Osei Tutu II has been informed about the incident and he has since summoned the chief of Feyiase.

Chief Linguist Nana Frempong described the incident as a bad omen for the town.

He told Akoma FM that a manhunt has been mounted for whoever is behind the act.

Legend has it that the tree started germinating after the famous fetish priest Okomfo Anokye spat out the cola he was chewing.

The tree has been a source of tourist attraction to many on their way to Lake Bosomtwe, another major tourist site in the Ashanti Region.

It came under threat of being felled during the construction of the Asokwa-Kuntenase road.

But it was left to stand as a result of the huge tourist interest.
