Five deprived communities in the Tain District and Wenchi Municipal of the Bono Region, have been provided with befitting classroom blocks, furniture as well as a mechanised borehole.
Until the gesture, these communities were forced to have their classes under trees and in some cases in improvised structures due to a lack of school infrastructure.
The fortunes of the Five communities namely; Nsawkaw State Senior High School, Attakrom JHS, Kate Islamic Basic, Subinso No 2 Islamic Basic and Bipotrim M/A Basic, however, changed courtesy of Madamfo Ghana Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), which promotes quality education in underprivileged areas.
Out of the NGO’s educational support programme, the Nsawkaw State Senior High School in the Tain District of the Bono Region now has potable water.
The school in recent times was facing acute water problem,s especially at the girls’ dormitory.
Three-unit classroom block was also handed over to the Attakrom Junior High School also in Tain District as well as the construction of a six unit classroom for the Kete Islamic Basic in the Wenchi Municipality.
Subinso No 2 Islamic Basic School in Wenchi Municipal was also presented with 85 dual desks.
The presentation of the dual desks was to enhance the quality of education in the area.
The initiative is part of the NGO’s ‘Furniture Project’, which aims to provide Furniture to underprivileged schools in communities.
The project is designed to complete the government’s efforts in creating conducive and comfortable learning environments for students.
Bipotrim Basic School in the Wenchi Municipal was also handed with a six-unit classroom block, toilet and staff common room.
The project comes as a sigh of relief for the communities, all located in the deprived areas in Bono Region.
In the worst scenario, some of the communities had to combine Kindergarten (KG) 1 and 2 as well as Class 1 pupils in one makeshift classroom, with as many as four pupils sharing a dual desk, while others sat on cement blocks to study.
The NGO, in furtherance of its mission to support the less-privileged in selected communities across the country in the area of health and education, has also equipped all the classrooms with Furniture.
Speaking at separate durbars to inaugurate the projects in the Five communities, the Deputy Country Director for Madamfo Ghana Foundation, Enock Sunday Attipoe, said the main focus of the NGO was working towards poverty alleviation through the provision of educational infrastructure, health and sanitation facilities and other initiatives in some parts of the country.
He was upbeat that the provision of the facilities in the communities would bring much relief and improve the lives of the beneficiary communities.
Mr Sunday Attipoe reiterated their commitment to continue working hard to extend their support to many communities across the country to complement the government’s development agenda.
He advised the pupils to take their lessons seriously while urging the management of these schools to put the facilities to good use.
The Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Alexander Obour Damoah , commended Madamfo Ghana Foundation, for its effort towards complementing the government’s effort toward poverty alleviation in the country in the past two decades.
He appealed to the beneficiary communities to adopt a good maintenance culture for the projects so they would last longer to merit its provision.
“ Your quest to help develop this Municipality through your social intervention programs is beyond our imagination”, he said and called on other benevolent bodies to emulate such a kind gesture.
Other dignitaries who witnessed the inauguration of the projects were the District Chief Executive for Tain, Hon Dr Nana Lucy Acheampong and the Wenchi Municipal And Tain District Education Director, Miss Mary Nyarkoh Adutwum.
