The criminal trial of domestic workers of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah has taken a new twist as State Prosecutors have filed extended charge sheets and taken it to a superior court.

Key suspect, 18-year-old Patience Botwe who allegedly masterminded the stealing of various items including 1 million dollars, 300,000 euros and other properties is standing trial together with 7 others at the Accra Circuit court.

The seven others; Sarah Agyei, 30, Benjamin Sowah, a 29-year-old plumber, Malik Dauda, 34, Christiana Achab a trader, Job Pomary, a mechanic and Yahaya Sumaila, an excavator operator were on 14 provisional counts of charges comprising conspiracy to steal and dishonestly receiving.

When the case was called on Wednesday, November 1, Police Prosecutor, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, in the company of Superintendent Sylvester Asare and Akosua Agyepomaa Agyemang, a Senior State Attorney, told the Court that, a fresh charge sheet has been filed at the Accra High Court.

DSP Nyamekye, however, explained that the Registrar of the High Court had not fixed a hearing date which would enable prosecution to withdraw the case at the Circuit Court.

“The State Attorney informed me that they have filed an enhanced Charged Sheet at the High Court yesterday waiting for a date to be issued,” he noted.

DSP Nyamekye further stated that if a date is assigned, the Prosecution “will come and seek the leave of the Court and withdraw the case from here (Circuit Court) and continue at High Court.”
