BOST boss sues NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi GH¢5m for defamation

Alfred Obeng Boateng, the BOST MD (R), wants a total of GH¢5m in damages from Sammy Gyamfi (L)[/caption] True to his earlier threats, the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has filed a defamation suit at a Kumasi High Court against Sammy Gyamfi, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The member of the NDC Communications Team will have to defend comments he made on Adom TV’s Bawdwam on Thursday, April 19 to the effect that the BOST MD, Alfred Obeng Boateng, is engaged in thievery at the company. During his contribution on the show, Mr Gyamfi challenged the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to look the side of BOST and arrest Mr Obeng Boateng, whom he claims is stealing from BOST, if he is to fight corruption. But the BOST MD has not taken the issue lightly and on Thursday he filed the suit in Kumasi. According to Mr Obeng Boateng’s statement of claim, the defendant’s comments have “gravely damaged” his reputation. He also says by Mr Gyamfi’s conduct, “BOST’s corporate image is suffering and continues to suffer with the said utterances or broadcast of defendant linking [him] to BOST as its MD”. The BOST chief is, therefore, demanding a total of GH¢5 million as damages from Mr Gyamfi. He also wants the NDC member to be injuncted from “further uttering, broadcasting, or causing to be published or broadcast, words or any words or images in any manner whatsoever either directly or indirectly implying or suggesting that [Mr Obeng Boateng] was a thief, engaging in rampant thievery at BOST, a criminal and engaging in criminal activity”.
