Bernard Mornah at the Nima Police Station[/caption] The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has sued the Inspector General of Police over his arrest during a peaceful protest by the Ghana-Togo Solidarity Movement in December 2017. The PNC chairman is praying the court to declare that his rights have been violated. He wants the courts to also declare that his rights to personal dignity have been violated by the first respondent, who in this case is the IGP. Additionally, Bernard Mornah wants the IGP and the Attorney General to compensate him with the sum of 136,960 Ghana Cedis. This, he claimed, is the cost incurred by the Ghana-Togo solidarity movement in organizing the aborted rally. The PNC chairman was arrested together with a security analyst at the Kawukudi park at Kanda near the Accra Girls School where they had gathered at a rally in support of the volatility in neighbouring Togo. The police scuttled the planned rally saying it was illegal. The police “threw me into the Pickup as a piece of wood and brought me to the police station”, he told TV3 when he was arrested on December 16 that what the police did was “uncouth”. The movement was later cleared by the police and the solidarity march was held on December 30, 2017.
