Incumbent Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency Baba Jamal has been declared winner of Tuesday’s parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Jamal polled 3,653 votes to emerge as his party’s parliamentary candidate again for the 2016 elections.

His closest rival and only contender Basil Ahiable polled 2,016 votes.

Seventy-four were rejected.

The voting on Tuesday was riddled with missing names from the register, notable among which is the wife of the incumbent MP.

Some voters also attempted stopping others from casting their ballots, accusing them of being members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This resulted in the arrest of a knife-wielding man at the Akwatia Lorry Station polling station.

The Electoral Commission supervised the primary, which was postponed from November 21, 2015 due to complaints of irregularities.
