Arrested Wontumi to be processed for court today

The arrested Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Benard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wuntumi is to be processed for court today after spending the night behind police cells. 

He was arrested on Tuesday when he turned himself in to the police station after he was declared wanted for assaulting a Member of Parliament. 

Scores of NPP supporters trooped to the police headquarters to demand his release from the police cells. A joint police and military personnel were assembled to maitain calm. 

Police sources in the Ashanti region have disclosed to tv3network.com that Mr. Wuntumi will be charged with assaulting a public officer under Section 205 of the Criminal Offences Act. 

The assaulted officials were Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwa and the Constituency Secretary, Felix Ibrahim on Sunday. 

Some of the supporters had left the police premises at the time of this report but vowed to return.
