Ghana’s opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo alleges that the current phenomenon of cocoa processing companies importing beans from Cote d’Ivoire to support enterprises is the biggest indictment on the performance of President John Dramani Mahama.
“Can you imagine that cocoa processing companies, because of the shortfall in Ghanaian production, are having either to cut output or to import cocoa from Cote d’Ivoire?” Nana Addo wondered.
On the final day of his ‘Rise and Build Tour’ in the Western Region, Nana Addo said this is the state the President Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leaving the cocoa industry.
“This is where we are today. That we, in Ghana, are having to import cocoa to support Ghanaian enterprises. It is a tragedy, it is a shame. It is the biggest indictment on Mahama’s policies and on his performance as President of this country.”
Nana Addo told the gathering on Thursday that the New Patriotic Party’s campaign ahead of the 2016 elections will dwell on four main agenda: industrialisation, agriculture, financial reform and regional integration.
“This is the four point programme that we are going to go into the election with, and will be the basis of our policies for the development of our country. It is a time tested strategy. It is the way Korea went, it is the way Taiwan went, and it is the way China has been going. That is the way, God-willing, Ghana is going to go, to develop our economy, bring jobs to our young people and prosperity to the masses of our people.”
