The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has minced no words in pointing out that the Government Official 1 referred to in the approved judgement of the Crown Court at Southwark is John Dramani Mahama.

Intermediary 5 is also a brother of Mr Mahama’s by name Samuel, the NPP further stated.

The ruling party made this known at a press conference on Monday, February 3.

The press conference comes in the wake of the publication of the judgement by Dame Victoria Sharp on Friday, January 31.

The approved judgement highlighted Ghana as one of the destinations Airbus SE officials paid bribes in securing a deal with the government of between 2009 and 2015.

Though the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who occupied the executive arm of government between that period, have discounted the judgement, the NPP says the current leader is complicit.

The judgement referred to a brother of a “high ranking elected Ghanaian Government official (Government Official 1)” as having served as an intermediary – Intermediary 5 – in sealing the deal.

“On the face of the evidence presented, Government Official 1 happens to be no other than former president John Dramani Mahama, now Presidential Candidate of the NDC for the 2020 Presidential General Elections,” NPP Spokesperson Yaw Buaben Asamoa told journalists.

Mr Asamoa, who is also a Member of Parliament, was unenthused about NDC’s statement signed by former Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong.

He said that “defence” was “very weak”.

He called out Mr Mahama to “respond directly to the issue himself”.
