TV3’s Alfred Ocansey in South Africa for Thompson Reuters programme

TV3’s multiple award-winning prime time news anchor and head of Business Desk, Alfred Ocansey, has been selected for the award-winning Thompson Reuters Foundation Wealth of Nations programme.

With over 7,000 applicants across Africa, Alfred went through a highly competitive process to emerge as one of the 12 finalists selected for the fully funded training programme, which takes place in Cape Town, South Africa.

Alfred was awarded a full grant for the week-long intensive training programme from Monday, February 3 to Friday, February 7, 2019.

The programme is in collaboration with the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism.

During the training period, Alfred will make presentations at the 8th Alternative Mining INDABA Conference, which is expected to bring together at least 500 participants from over 30 countries comprising of ministers, members of parliament, NGOs and other key stakeholders.

Alfred partook in a story pitch during his time in the United States of America as a 2019 Mandela Washington fellow.

This gave him the opportunity to refine his story idea by exploring other sources which provided him enough information to pursue an impactful story on illicit financial flow.

Alfred hopes to derive the full benefits of the intensive programme to enable him improve on his work as a journalist, and also share with his colleagues for collective growth.

Alfred made history in 2019 as the first television male news caster to win the RTP Best Male Newscaster award for three years in a row.

With the support of his colleagues, Alfred hopes to continue improving and impacting more lives through journalism.
