It has, however, asked the President to act in similar manner in taking action against other public officers found to have abused their office in the Judgement Debt Commission’s report as well as the report of the Black Stars Brazil 2014 Commission of Enquiry.
The two reports been presented to President Mahama currently awaiting his action and future acts of impropriety and corruption.
Meanwhile, the GII is asking President Mahama to publish the report on Ms. Lamptey in the spirit of transparency and accountability in order “to assist Ghanaians to recognise and avoid similar actions in the future wherever and whenever they occur.”
A statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Vitus Azee, also urged the President to a matter of urgency appoint a substantive Commissioner in consultation with the Council of State, pointing out that per Article 216 of the country’s constitution, CHRAJ at all material time should have a Commissioner and two Deputy Commissioners.
“GII wishes to emphasise that the positions of heads of independent constitutional bodies should not remain vacant for unduly long periods (as has happened in the past) and acting positions should normally not exceed six months,” it stated.
It has also applauded the efforts of Mr. Richard Nyamah of the Progressive Nationalist Forum and Hon. Annor Dompreh, Member of Parliament, Nsawam Adoagyiri, whose action led to the establishment of the Commission to investigate the allegation against Ms. Lamptey.
“GII further encourages all Ghanaians to become watchdogs of the State’s assets and contribute their efforts to minimise corruption as required by the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) which was approved by Parliament and which enjoins all citizens to do so,” it said
