The Ashanti Region executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are currently meeting the police over the arrest and impending arraignment of Maxwell Kofi Jumah in court.

Mr Jumah was arrested last Saturday for allegedly destroying electoral materials at the regional youth center in Ahinsan, Kumasi, where elections for an NPP parliamentary candidate for Asokwa Constituency were being held.

The former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive was kept behind bars throughout the polls, which he lost to incumbent Member of Parliament Patricia Appiagyei.

Mr Jumah was released on Sunday night.

The regional party chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, former General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Ayisi Boateng, a leading member of the party in the Region, were present when Mr Jumah – popularly known as Kofi Ghana – was released, our reporter said on Midday Live on Monday, June 15.

TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo said the three party bigwigs in the Region charged the supporters of Mr Jumah to keep clam as officials ensure that the matter is settled out of court.

Mr Jumah is said to have been charged with destroying electoral materials and disturbing public peace.
