34 new coronavirus cases recorded; Ghana total 195

The total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Ghana since Thursday, March 12 stands at 195, the Minister of Health has announced.

Out of this, five deaths have been recorded.

Greater Accra Region has the highest number of confirmed cases in a regional breakdown with 174.

These were made known by Kwaku Agyemang-Manu at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 1.

As of the end of March, Ghana had confirmed 161 cases of the deadly viral disease with the majority from persons put under mandatory quarantine.

Briefing the media, Mr Agyemang-Manu said most of the patients have been kept at the Ga East Municipal Hospital.

He said the enhanced testing began on Monday after some parts of the country went on lockdown has brought the total figure to 196.

A total of 106 were recorded from the general surveillance in the population.

So far, three have fully recovered, the Minister of Health said, with 18 discharged but under home management.

Aside Greater Accra recording the highest number of patients, Northern Region has 10. Ashanti Region has nine confirmed cases with the Upper West and Eastern regions with one each.

The Minister said some health facilities including the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) and the Bank of Ghana Hospital have been readied to admit Covid-19 patients in case the numbers in Ghana soar.
