Three persons have been killed at Huhunya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region in a goat stealing operation gone bad. Two of them were shot dead by the alleged thieves Saturday morning while chasing the suspects who were escaping arrest. One of the suspected thieves, who was driving the Toyota saloon car used for the stealing was however arrested by a mob, tied to the boot of the car with one goat, and burnt alive.
The driver was tied, placed in the booth of the car and set ablaze
Eyewitnesses told editors.3news.com that the group of alleged thieves stole five goats from Teguanya in the wee hours of Saturday and were leaving the town when alarm was raised. Youth of the town, some of who were riding on motorbikes, gave them a chase and informed people in the nearby Huhunya community to mount a road block. Not long after, the alleged thieves, according to witnesses, reached Huhunya and sensing danger, began to shot at their chasers, killing two of them instantly. But the irate mob managed to arrest the driver of the car registered GW 4151-19 at about 2:00am, and subjected him to severe beatings before being tied and burnt together with the car. Four of the five goats retrieved from the car were found dead. The only goat, which was pregnant, has since been handed over to the police. Bodies of the deceased persons have since been removed from the crime scene and deposited at the Koforidua Central Hospital morgue. The residents justified their action, claiming goat stealing has been going on in the town far too long. By Yvonne Neequaye|editors.3news.com|Ghana
