Thirteen people are confirmed dead in a Monday dawn accident at Akwatiakrom in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region. A Ford Transit bus with 14 passengers travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi was said to have veered off its lane and collided head on with a cargo truck at about 1:00am Monday. Only one person in the Ford vehicle with registration number AS 7257-16 survived and is currently on admission at the St. John’s of God Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region. The truck is registered GR 2624-N. The deceased is made up of 12 males and one female. First responders from the Akwatiakrom township as well as the Pokukrom Police and Fire Service personnel from Bechem could not remove the bodies from the Ford as the vehicle was mangled, our correspondent reported Monday morning. According to our correspondent, it took about four hours for Ghana National Fire Service in Sunyani, which was called in, to cut open the vehicle for the bodies to be removed before the two vehicles were subsequently towed to clear the road for traffic flow. Driver of the Ford told our correspondent that he saw the Ford vehicle suddenly move from its lane to crash his truck head-on, adding “the Ford driver could possibly be sleeping” By 3news.com|Ghana]]>
