Media General Group launches The 3 Foundation

The Media General Group, a leading media conglomerate in Ghana, Friday launched its much anticipated charity arm – The 3 Foundation – to prosecute the group’s corporate social responsibility.

Media General Group owns several media outfits including TV3 Network Ltd, Onua FM, 3FM, MG Digital Media Ltd (editors.3news.com), and Adesa Productions Ltd.

The 3 Foundation was launched by Dr. Kwabena Michael Agyekum Addo, the Chief Executive of Kama Group Limited.

Today’s launch was strategic to coincide with the first anniversary of the June 3 disaster which claimed over 150 lives at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. Nurses, teachers, artisans, bankers, students, and children were among the people who lost their lives in the disaster.

The 3 Foundation will serve as a beacon of hope for those in need, and also show that as a media group, Media General is serious about being the lead media advocate on CSR initiatives.

The launch attracted several dignitaries including the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, representative of the founder of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach (WMO) Dr. Lawrence Tetteh and traditional leaders.

It was also graced by the Chief Executive of TV3 Network Limied, Ray Nkwe, the stations Director of Business Development, Daniel Amartey-Amarh among other managers of the station.

Ghanaian songstress and UNICEF ambassador Becca, who was the special guest of honor, gave an emotional speech urging the leadership of the country and those in authority to take the right measures to avoid a repetition of the June 3 disaster in the future.

TV3 used its platform to launch the June 3 Disaster Support Fund and appealed to the public and corporate institution to assist in raising funds to help alleviate the burden of the victims.

About GHC 600,000.00 (both cash and in kind donations) was realized and over 3,000 victims in 13 sub metros in Accra were supported.

Following the success of the June 3 campaign together with other CSR initiatives such as the Blood Donation and Hole in Heart medical support, there was an opportunity to set up a co-ordinated and well- managed Foundation that proactively addresses societal issues, hence the birth of The 3 Foundation to impact positively on the community.

The Foundation is set up to focus on

1. areas where there is gap in society of needs that are not met, particularly relating to Socio-economic issues:
– e.g. initiatives relating to educational, health, environmental and developmental issues.

2. Also look at the value it can add to funds entrusted to the Foundation to ensure it creates a positive impact on the communities it serves.
