From Dortmund fan to coach: Edin Terzić’s journey to the Champions League final

Edin Terzić’s story with Borussia Dortmund is one of true dedication and passion. Born in Germany to Bosnian and Croatian parents, Terzić grew up as a devoted fan of the club, witnessing their last Bundesliga title win under the legendary Jürgen Klopp in 2012.

However, his connection with Dortmund went beyond fandom, as he began working behind the scenes as a scout and later as a U17 assistant coach.

Terzić’s journey within the club’s ranks reflects his unwavering commitment and love for Dortmund.

He experienced the highs and lows alongside the team, including the heartbreak of narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga title in previous seasons.

Last season’s agonising defeat in the league left a profound impact on Terzić, evident in the tears he shed, showcasing his deep emotional attachment to the club.

Now, Terzić finds himself at the helm of Dortmund’s quest for European glory. From a fan to an assistant coach, and now as the head coach, he leads Dortmund to the pinnacle of club football – the Champions League final.

It’s a remarkable turn of events for the man who once cheered from the stands, now entrusted with guiding his beloved team to victory on the biggest stage.

Stephen Oduro not better than Richmond Lamptey – Former Kotoko defender

Former Kotoko left-back Eric Donkor has suggested that current Kotoko player Richmond Lamptey possesses qualities comparable to club legend Stephen Oduro.

In an exclusive interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, Donkor argued that Ghana Premier League (GPL) players today have similar levels of quality to those who graced the league in previous years.

He contended that former players like Oduro gained prominence mainly due to their prolonged stay and consistent performance in the local league, rather than possessing inherently superior skills.

“We have quality players in the GPL who can match the quality of players like Stephen Oduro, Ishmael Addo, Opoku Nti, and others. Richmond Lamptey a typical example, he is comparable to Stephen Oduro.

He asserted that while Lamptey exhibits considerable talent, his potential to attain legendary status in the Kotoko fraternity might be hindered by his likely departure from the club in the near future.

“People had loved for players like Malik Jabir, Stephen Oduro, and Charles Taylor and the rest because they played in our league for a longer period of time, and it is why their names are mentioned always However, no one can persuade me that the league is of low quality.

“The current GPL players are of high quality, but fans can’t get the opportunity to experience them for a longer period because they’re always leaving the country. Stephen Oduro may be slightly ahead of Lamptey because Oduro played in the local league for a long time, but Lamptey’s future at Kotoko is uncertain at the moment and may likely leave depriving him the opportunity to become a household name.”

Meanwhile, Kotoko are currently 10th in the Ghana Premier League and would aim to finish strong with five matches to end the season.

Cecilia Dapaah’s case: Special Prosecutor messed up – Lawyer

0

In a recent development concerning the case of Cecilia Dapaah, Constitutional Lawyer Kwame Adofo has pointed fingers at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for the setbacks encountered in dealing with the matter.

According to Adofo, this “fine case” risks being undermined and thrown out due to the outfit’s failure to conduct proper investigations and reports before coming out to tell Ghanaians that the said millions found in the office and home of Cecilia Dapaah is laundered money.

“The Special prosecutor was asked to submit his report on the investigation conducted that says her money is laundered, but he couldn’t provide that report because no investigation was conducted,” he told Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB, Yen Nsempa, Onua FM.

Explaining this he said, “The law states that as a Special Prosecutor, if you investigate and see that the money is tainted money, he has 7 days to go to court and report the issue immediately for the needed actions to be taken but the OSP did not do this. He waited for more than 14 days before even going to court, meaning the laws he is supposed to work with, he did not comply with it, he faulted it.”

Adding that “because he delayed, the Court told him he has faulted hence the OSP had no case and had to return the millions of money to Cecilia Dapaah, and he did not appeal to the Court either.”

The Lawyer further disclosed that after the OSP realised he had messed up the case, he used the pretense of “money laundering” to pass the case over to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

“OSP knew he had messed up and to make an excuse to cover up his ineffectiveness, he handed the case to EOCO, because he knew he messed up.”

Adofo questioned EOCO’s capacity to investigate the matter effectively without access to the said money nor reports of any investigation conducted.

“Transferring the case to EOCO without a solid foundation only compounds the issue,” Adofo remarked. “Without tangible leads or evidence, the prospects of a successful investigation are slim, without tangible evidence, the case remains mired in uncertainty,” he said.

Anti-LGBTQI Bill case: You’ve taken our time and energy for nothing – SC tells Speaker’s lawyer after dismissing preliminary objection

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 8 told lawyers of the Speaker that they have taken the time and energy of the court for no reason with their preliminary objection in the case against the anti-lgbtqi bill.

The apex court dismissed the preliminary objection by the lawyer of the Speaker of Parliament, Thaddeus Sory in the case.

When the court sat to hear the case which was carried live on television, Lawyers for broadcast journalist Richard Sky who filed the case, sought to amend one of the reliefs on the motion for injunction.

Lawyer for the Speaker of Parliament Thaddeus Sory objected to this.

He argued that he had already indicated in documents filed earlier that his side objected to how that relief had been couched and so allowing them to amend it would defeat his objection.

After hearing the arguments, the Justices of the Apex  Court chaired by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkoornoo ruled that “our considered view is that the preliminary objection is unnecessary and does not seek to assist any process before this court. Every party has an inherent right to present the appropriate formulation of their reliefs or other process before the court to enable the court to determine the real matters in controversy. The objection is dismissed.”

The Chief Justice further told the lawyers of the speaker that “You have taken our time and energy for nothing.”

Ghanaian Journalist, Richard Dela Sky, and Researcher Dr. Amanda Odoi are set to appear before the Supreme Court today, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to move their respective lawsuits challenging the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

I will fight for all card bearing members of NPP to vote in internal elections – Chairman Wontumi

0

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has given a hint that the party is considering expansion of the current delegates album across board.

Mr Boasiako said he has had a conversation with the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua to expand the current album in order to avoid issues which tend to disintegrate the party.

“To be sincere, I am going to fight. I have talked to the General Secretary and he agrees with me that every card bearing member of our party be allowed to vote in all our internal elections.”

“He has accepted and I know there are a lot of people in our party who also support this” Wontumi said in an interview on his radio station.

This is not the first-time conversation on the expansion of the NPP delegates album has come up. In December 2021, the ruling party held its annual delegates congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, a number of proposals dwelling on the expansion of the party’s album came up.

Former MP for Manhyia North Constituency, Collins Owusu Amankwah proposed that all former MPs be made part of the electoral college, among other many proposals suggesting an expansion of the party’s album across board.

In an interview with TV3’s William Evans-Nkum at the time, a member of the Constitutional Review Committee of the party and former Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka said “we have received the proposals and we are going to work on them, they can only be adopted by Congress.”

Over the years, party members have complained about the removal of their names from the delegates list. Such concerns have grown into apathy.

In the lead up to the Ejisu by-election three-time member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi contested as an independent candidate.

In an exclusive interview with TV3’s William Evans-Nkum, the former lawmaker said “I am doing this to teach the NPP a lesson, somebody will put together a delegates album at 2:00am and the party leadership will sit aloof? The real party supporters want Aduomi to lead, the reason I am contesting as an independent candidate.”

Several concerns have also been echoed from aggrieved party supporters over their names being expunged from the electoral college.

Ashanti Region has recorded many of such cases. In the lead up to the 2020 parliamentary elections, the current 2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrews Asiamah, left the party to contest as an independent candidate based on the same issue.

Kwasi Amofa Esq, a member of the legal team that represented the NPP during the 2012 elections petition case at the Supreme Court is contesting as an independent candidate for the Bekwai seat in December polls; he contested Joe Osei Owusu (1st Deputy Speaker) as independent candidate in the 2020 parliamentary election.

Some have blamed leadership for supervising what has been christened as ‘mafia tactics.’

Wontumi says he has never been involved in who becomes a delegate. “Why should people blame me for the election of polling station officers when I was never involved in the process?”

Bernard Antwi Boasiako has posited that all card-bearing members of the party must be allowed to vote in future internal elections by the party.

“What stops card bearing members of the NPP from voting to decide who becomes their parliamentary candidate; who becomes a member of the constituency or national executive? He queried.
