Sensational gospel musician and pastor, formerly known as Jeshurun Okyere, has said rebranded from his former name to Eric Jeshurun.
The name change comes after what he explained as difficulty with identification, especially with spelling and pronunciation.
Speaking with MzGee on the entertainment segment of TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, October 6, Pastor Eric explained that the name change was very necessary as it has given him a fresh start.
Asked whether changing his name will take away his identity as African, he stated that being an African can be felt in his music and to him that is the most important thing.
He also indicated that changing his name shouldn’t take away his Africaness from him.
He made reference to a fellow gospel acts who had similar names like his.
‘’There is this freshness that comes with branding, I didn’t know that before. Psychologically, it’s kind of boosted our morale to try new things.”
The reverend minister also believes that the name Eric Jeshurun gives his brand a more global appeal.
Eric, who is the brain behind August Worship, a gospel programme held annually, said the show will be held next year to mark its 10th anniversary.
