Some past students of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana at Legon have donated assorted items worth over GH¢5,000 to the inmates of the Pantang Hospital in Accra The items included bags of rice, cartons of milk, sugar, gallons of oil, toilet rolls, bars of soaps, detergents, bags of sachet water and tins of fish. The old students, who form the Sons of Bacchus group, also used more than an hour to weed, sweep and desilt gutters at the hospital. With poor conditions and low budgetary allocations, most of the nation’s mental health facilities have been in dire need for assistance for some time now and it is against this background that the group made the donation to the facility. Leader of the group Kwabena Boye Adjekumhene, who presented the items, said their gesture is geared towards supporting others in society, indicating that members of the Sons of Bacchus believe in giving back to society and helping one another to improve the lives of humanity. Secretary of the Pantang Hospital, Boakye, expressed gratitude to the group and urged other well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate the gesture. He said the items would go a long way to put smiles on the faces of the inmates of the Pantang Mental Hospital and urged the VANDALS to continue to demonstrate their support to others in society. The Environmental Manager of the Pantang Hospital also expressed joy over the clean-up exercise, saying it has provided a healthy environment for the inmates and management of the hospital.
