Have you been sleeping in Parliament? Mahama asks Minority over gov’t loans

President John Dramani Mahama has questioned the competence of members of the Minority caucus of Parliament over questions they have raised regarding the purposes of loans contracted by government.

According to President Mahama, all loans with their details pass through parliament for approval, therefore, making it difficult for him to understand how the MPs will not know the purpose of those loans.

President Mahama said no loans have been contracted by his government without being taken to Parliament for approval.

He said those questioning the purpose of government loans do not deserve to be in Parliament.

President Mahama expressed these sentiments on Thursday, November 19 during a rally at the Jubilee Park in the Volta Region.

It was the final leg of his ‘Changing Lives…Transforming Ghana’ tour ahead of the primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) scheduled for Saturday, November 21.

The party is seeking a one-million vote gap with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Region during the 2016 elections. This agenda was launched during Thursday’s rally.

President Mahama promised more infrastructure for the Region in the coming year.

It was at this rally that he replied the criticism of the minority members in Parliament.

“If they want a list of what we used the monies for, they should just go to the Hansard. All the projects are listed there.”

President Mahama also defended the raising of revenues for infrastructure, blasting NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia again for complaining about the revenues.

“Is it a sin to raise more revenues?” President Mahama queried.
