The People’s National Convention (PNC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful holding of its presidential primaries over the weekend.

The ruling party elected Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer against three other contenders including firebrand Assin Central lawmaker Ken Agyapong.

In its congratulatory message to the NPP on Monday, November 6, the PNC described the election of the Vice President as one deserving of the Guinness Book of Records.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for successfully conducting internal party elections and for the election of the Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a candidate,” the message issued by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla said.

“This step sets a Guinness World Record in your party’s history.”

The PNC admitted that though its ideology differs from the NPP’s, actively engaging in participatory democracy is what exemplifies party politics.

It passed verdict that all four aspirants “demonstrated maturity, and we commend the party for this”.

“As an opposition political party, we believe in healthy competition and policy base case campaign which will bring a positive impact on our nation,” the PNC said, pointing out it will present alternative policies and solutions to return to power in 2025.

“Once again, congratulations to you and your party for successfully holding a peaceful internal election.

“May the competition ahead be spirited yet civil, inspiring our nation with a commitment to democracy and a brighter future for our country,” the message concluded.
