Residents of Fante New Town, Nyame Bekyere, New Ankasa, Awia-Futu Junction, among others in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region have for the first time in several years have a potable water to drink and for other things.

Residents says they have been fetching water from a dug-out well at dawn which sometimes lead to injuries and other challenges because they trek to the dugout at dawn and night.

Pupils walk several kilometres to fetch water from these dugouts before they attend schools which result to lateness to school on daily basis.

This came to light during a commissioning of the one of the mechanized boreholes at Fante New Town.

The borehole was constructed by the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

The Fante New Town project is one out of the ten completed mechanized boreholes for the residents in the Jomoro Constituency.

The Odikro of Fante New Town, Job Pintil, said if the MP was unable to construct the borehole for them, she would not have been able to step foot unto that area again.

He was optimistic the MP will do more for them to enable them vote for her in the next elections.

Odikro Job Pintil appealed to the MP to construct the only road in the area for them since they also suffer commuting on the road.

The MP, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, explained that she was touched to do the project based on the request from the inhabitants when she went for campaign.

She said water is life and so she took it upon herself to ensure the speedy execution of the project to save lives.

Asked on the cost of the project, the MP explained that even though she would not disclose the cost of one mechanized borehole or the entire ten in other communities, a lot of money has gone in.

Madam Affo-Toffey called on the residents to make maintenance the hallmark on the borehole because it is the source of livelihood.
