The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to put on hold the election of its 2024 parliamentary candidates in 15 constituencies.

The primaries were originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 13 for all 275 constituencies.

But at a meeting held on Tuesday, April 25, FEC decided to hold on for these 15 constituencies.

Among the 15 constituencies is Ayawaso West Wuogon, where John Setor Dumelo is being challenged by now estranged friend Frederick Nuamah.

The affected constituencies are Akwatia, Ayensuano, Afram Plains South, Lower West Akim, Adansi ASokwa, Mampong, Odododiodoo, Amenfi East, Gomoa Central, Akontombra, Tano North, Manhyia South, Assin North, Effutu and, of course, Ayawaso West Wuogon.

For Manyia South in the Ashanti Region, the presidential primaries have also been suspended.

No further explanations were given for the suspension of the polls but FEC said it “is working diligently to ensure that issues bedevilling the above constituencies are dealt with and announce a new date for the Primaries in due course”.

The primaries are expected to elect the candidates of the largest opposition party of next year’s general elections.
