Ramadan: Over 200 Muslims in northern Ghana receive food support

    Over 200 underprivileged Muslims in the East Gonja area of northern Ghana have received food support from UK-based organization Caravan of Mercy, UK.

    The gesture is to enable the beneficiaries complete the 30 days of fasting.

    Presenting the food items to the beneficiaries, National President of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) Alhaji Mohammed Amin Osman noted that the donation will bring smiles to the beneficiaries who are mostly widows, the aged and orphans.

    “I am happy seeing the joy and relief on the faces of the beneficiaries. Such gestures bring nothing but smiles.”

    He expressed gratitude to the donors, Caravan of Mercy UK, for their continuous support to the less privileged over the past years.

    “This donation will go a long way to assist these women provide food for their homes and I must commend Caravan of Mercy UK for this gesture,” lawyer Amin Osman.

    Azara Sumaila, on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the donors for the support.

    “This has come to save me and my three children because we didn’t know how we were going to complete this fasting but Allah has made it possible through this support.”

    The beneficiaries drawn from Salaga, Nkwanta, Sisipe, Matilapor and Nakpaye received bags of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, sugar, tea bags and water.

    Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam which mandates Muslims to fast for 30 days.

    It has often been characterized by donation of food items to the poor who can not afford to buy food to fast.
