Under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) “Promoting Public Health and Social Resilience against Covid-19 by strengthening the domestic supply chain of personal protective equipment under a circular economy approach” project, a three-day programme was organized for selected entrepreneurs from Ghana at the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT) in India to provide hands-on training on “Pilot plant scale production of botanical antimicrobial based hand sanitizer”.
According to Mrs. Abena Nakawa, National Project Coordinator of the Project, the training programme was highly successful in imparting know-how and demonstrating the technology developed at IPFT for bio-based hand sanitizer production and quality assurance as they were allowed to produce a sample of the batch themselves.
She said the participants had a chance to also visit the analytical and Bio-sciences departments of the Institute besides the Formulation and Pilot Plant facility of the institute from the 15th to 20th October, 2022 and were given a certificate of successful completion of the course.
“After this training, the selected entrepreneurs are now able to put up the commercial level facility for the manufacture of the environment and produce a user-friendly bio-based hand sanitizer in Ghana,” she added.
The delegation was thankful to UNIDO, the Japan government and IPFT for funding such an educative piece on the “bio-based” hand sanitizer technology; first of its kind to be replicated in Ghana and elsewhere.
