A first-year student of the University of Ghana is reported to have drowned after going swimming with some friends on Saturday, January 29.

According to campus-based radio station Radio Univers, the deceased, a male student, drowned after attempting a depth of 21 feet in the University of Ghana Swimming Pool.

The name of the student is yet to be disclosed.

This comes in the throes of the strike by University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) across the country.

Since tertiary institutions opened for fresh students in 2022, lecturers have been on strike.

The situation has forced the National Labour Commission (NLC) to proceed to court after tagging the lecturers’ action illegal.
