The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana School of Law has denied reports that members have been directed to submit social media accounts to authorities for monitoring.
“The SRC wishes to state that, no such directive has been given to any student by the Management of the Ghana School of Law,” the Council stressed in a press release on Wednesday, November 9.
Earlier reports suggested that the Director of the School, Yaw Oppong, at a swearing-in ceremony of new SRC executives, directed students to submit their social media handles for monitoring for good behaviour.
“Everybody will have to provide their social media handles,” he had said.
“We are going to look at it and you will be monitored in terms of conduct. We are required by law to make recommendations. We don’t want to stampede you.”
According to the SRC, Mr Oppong only reiterated a general caution to the students to abide by the School’s code of conduct within and outside campus including social media platforms in management’s expectation that many are called to the bar.
The SRC, thus, called on all to disregard the reports.
