The President of Gonjaland Youth Association with support from Caravan of Mercy, a charity organization, has donated Ramadan food items worth thousands of cedis to over 500 aged individuals ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr celebration.

The items include bags of rice, cooking oil, tomatoe paste, water and other ingredients.

President of Gonjaland Youth Association Lawyer Mohammed Amin Osman, who led the distribution, said the donation was to support the aged who cannot afford to buy the items to also celebrate the Eid-ul-fitr, which is some few days ahead.

“We have been doing this for the past three years to support these old men and women who are struggling to feed in Ramadan so they can also cook something for themselves and their families.”

He added: “Islam teaches us to give to the poor and needy and in this holy month of Ramadan, it is only good to share the little you have to the poor.”

He thanked the donors for their continuous support to the cause and appealed for more support.

Zakaria Mariam, 83 from Sisipe, said the food items received will go a long way to feed her and her grandchildren.

“I didn’t know what to eat on the ‘salla’ day and thankfully these people came to support me with food items. I can only be grateful to them for their support.”

Kakoshi Gonja and Chekosi, Kpembe, Sisipe, Salaga Iddipe are among the beneficiary communities.
