Covid cases up; Greater Accra leads – GHS

Ninety percent of new cases of coronavirus being recorded in Ghana are from the Greater Accra Region, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The Service says the ten percent is from seven other regions in the southern sector.

The GHS has recorded 62 new cases for the past two weeks and, according to them, it started in Accra, spreading to other parts of the country.

The Director of Public Health at the GHS, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, explained on 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday, June 6 that “the 62 new cases are predominantly in greater Accra”.

“It started two weeks ago and the gradual increase started in Accra, but now it is in seven regions. They are in the southern regions but 90% of cases are in the Greater Accra Region,” he told host Alfred Ocansey.

Explaining where these cases are being recorded, the Director said “some of the cases were recorded in work places, parties and conferences”.

Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe warned that Ghanaians should desist from the notion that Covid-19 is over.

“COVID is not over yet. The public should not have that misconception, unless the World Health Organization declares it over.”
