He pointed out that whatever decisions the leaders take will affect the country in the future hence the need to ensure they account for every action while in government.
Mr Basintale further accused President Akufo-Addo of badly managed the economy before the advent of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
He said the borrowing rate before COVID-19 was leading the country into an economic ditch.
In an interview with Berla Mundi on the New Day show on TV3, Wednesday, July 7, Mr Basintale said this economic and security failure under the aegis of President Akufo-Addo necessitated the youth wing of the NDC and the concerned youth of the country to demonstrate on Tuesday, July 6 to petition the President.
He was speaking on the back of the demonstration organized by the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) dubbed “March For Justice” on Tuesday, from the lawns of the Accra Mall to the seat of government the Flagstaff House to present their petition and also to parliament to present another petition to the Speaker of the August House.
“Another factor is the borrowing rate, before COVID-19 President Akufo-Addo had already borrowed more than $160 billion under his regime before COVID-19 and so these are things that happened before COVID-19. If I bring the post COVID-19 economics into this matter, then you will realize that we are going nowhere than going into a ditch because post COVID-19 President Akufo-Addo rented a private jet for more than 15,000 pounds an hour and was bathing in the sky, that’s post COVID-19 economics. After COVID-19, President Akufo-Addo accrued to the taxpayer a judgement debt of $170 million, that’s after COVID-19”, he pointed out.
He added “and so these are the upward COVID-19 economics where President Akufo-Addo has suffered the Ghanaian economy excruciatingly. And so again, I think that our demonstration yesterday was to register our sentiments, as the youth of this country I strongly believe that we are at the point where the older generation are about to hand over the fortunes of this country to us.
“And so if they are about to hand over the fortunes of this country to us I think we must begin to hold them accountable, that is why we are telling President Akufo-Addo that all is not well with this country, there are a lot of insecurities, there is excruciating poverty, there are economic hardships, people are suffering in this country, nothing is going in this country and yet he finds it prudent to go into the sky and have a sky bath”.
