UPSA student flogging mate in viral video dismissed

Authorities at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) have dismissed Queenster Baby Naa Borley Borqueye, who was captured in a viral video flogging a mate.

Popularly called Queenstar, Naa Borley is said to have caned two of her mates in a hostel for allegedly gossiping that she sleeps with lecturers for grades.

After the video went viral, the University was mocked for allowing such an action by one of its students given its status in the training of great minds in the country.

In a letter of dismissal to Queenstar, the Registrar, Dr Koryoe Anim-Wright, said her “misconduct” brought the name of the University into disrepute.

She was also accused by the Disciplinary Committee set up to look into the matter of the offence of abduction under Section 1.28.2(n) of the Undergraduate Students Handbook.

“Acting on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee, the Vice Chancellor as the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University has in accordance with sanctions for the breach of the University’s regulations stated in Schedule G, Section 8.4 of the University’s Fundamental Regulations, upheld the recommendation of the Committee and directed that you should be dismissed from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Access course being run by the University.”

The dismissal takes immediate effect.

She is to hand over the key to her hostel room and her students ID card to the appropriate authorities.

“All relevant officers of the University and your parents/guardians are, by copies of this letter, informed accordingly,” Dr Anim-Wright’s letter concludes.

CORRECTION: The original article mistakenly referred to Queenstar as Mabel Teye-Nomo. Any inconvenience caused Mabel and her close associates is deeply regretted.
