UEW reopens next week

University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is set for reopening on April 8, 2019, Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Emmanuel Nicholas Abakah has announced. The decision was taken based on “advice and permission” from the Regional Security Council to the Governing Council, a statement signed by the Council Chairman noted on Wednesday. The University was closed down on March 14 following a violent protest on campus last month against the dismissal of their lecturers. Read: UEW shut down indefinitely over violent protest After wide consultations by the Governing Council, it has been announced that students will arrive on campus on Monday for the mid-semester examinations to take place from Tuesday, 9th April, 2019 to Friday, 12th April, 2019. “The Governing Council further brings to the attention of the Students Representative Council (SRC), the general student body, lecturers and staff of the University that on-campus-resident students will only be allowed into the halls of residence on the two campuses effective Monday April 8, 2019, and not earlier.” The Governing Council has therefore tasked the university management and the academic board to review the school’s academic calendar to cater for the loss of time and ensure that staff and students work collaboratively to return academic work to normalcy.
