Bushfire under high voltage lines caused power outage – GRIDCo explains

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has explained the cause of Saturday’s power outage which affected most users across the country.

The power production company said the trip was caused by a raging bushfire under high voltage lines near Tarkwa.

“A fire tender from Tarkwa Goldfields is on site to bring the fire under control,” a statement immediately issued by the Corporate Communications Department said.

The situation caused all thermal plants and Bui generators and customer loads to trip.

The 330kV Aboadze to Anwomaso line tripped, first of all, followed by a number of lines on the western corridor of the grid, triggering a system disturbance.

But GRIDCo assured that restoration of power immediately commenced “and efforts are ongoing to restore power to all affected areas and customers”.

“GRIDCo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused by this incidence and is working to restore normal power supply.”
