A local steel manufacturing company, B5 Plus Group of Industries, which is part of government’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative, has been adjudged the ‘Super Brand’ in the steel industry. This is according to a three-month national research conducted by the African Brand Warriors, a licensed holder for the Super Brands UK in Ghana and Nigeria. The research covered various brands and key products in the consumer market, including banks, projects, and government offices, fast-moving items in various categories like perishable and non-perishable goods; white goods and brown goods, as well as steel. Chairman of the B5 Plus Group of Companies Mukesh Thakwani, who received the plaque in recognition of their position as a Super Brand, expressed satisfaction for the award. “We are very proud to say B5 Plus has been recognized for its hard work and today we have become the Super Brand in the steel segment for the steel industry in Ghana. “We believe in Ghana; today you see that B5 Plus is coming up with the biggest steel project in Ghana that is committed in building more made in Ghana goods. So that the steel will become more competitive in Ghana, so that people will be able to build to reduce the housing deficit,” he explained. The Chairman revealed that B5 will launch its steel plant in Aplaku and increase its employment capacity to 15,000, an increase from the 10,000 direct and indirect jobs it has currently created. It promises to make sure that B5 Plus produces more goods in Ghana to make ‘Made in Ghana’ steels known to the world. CEO of Africa Brand Warrior Fatima Ali Mohammed noted that Super Brand is an international firm with an aim of awarding brands that stood out and conformed with various factors within the consumers’ lifestyle: in terms of quality, durability, history its performance after taking it off the shelf and in terms of imagery. “We conducted a research across Ghana to be able to understand what the key factors that were driving the super brands were.” Other brands awarded in the other categories as Super brands include Indomie, Bel Aqua, Poly Tank for the plastic sector, Reroy Cables in the cables sector, among others.
