A 36-year-old driver was shot and killed after four suspected armed robbers attacked his commercial vehicle at Ekumfi Ekrowful on the Ajumako-Accra road in the Central Region. The belongings of passengers were also stolen by the robbers. The incident happened on Friday dawn around 3:00am. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Saltpond Government Hospital while the traumatized passengers who escaped unhurt have been dispatched to their various destinations. A local journalist, Astymin, who broke the news to Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Nana Yaw Opare on Friday explained that the driver, Kwabena Ahinful, with a Hyundai vehicle registration number GT 5863-19 loaded the 14 passengers from Ajumako to Accra on Friday dawn. He said on reaching Ekumfi Ekrowful, the driver spotted a road block and suspected the blockade to be suspected armed robbers who were robbing innocent passengers. The journalist narrates that the driver decided to make a U-turn to Ajumako but the suspected armed robber starting firing gun shots through the vehicle and eventually hit him on the head. He said an immigration officer, who was also on-board, drove the car into a bush to save the remaining passengers. He explained that the police and the youth in the area have teamed up to apprehend the suspects. The deceased left behind a wife and four children, editors.3news.com has been told.
