Akufo-Addo gov’t mocked: NDC MP says it can’t invest in roads, hospitals like Mahama gov’t

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has taken a swipe at the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government, saying it has decided not to invest in “capital projects”.

In his definition, the MP said “capital projects” are physical infrastructural projects that “take money from government”.

He said these projects include roads, hospitals, schools and suchlike social amenities.

Mr Agbodza argued that because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has given monies to teacher and  nurse trainees, little is left on the table for major projects like the ones seen under the John Mahama regime.

“Almost everybody agrees that for Free SHS, One-District, One-Factory…for everything to work, we need certain basic infrastructure running in this country.

“Under what condition are you going to run a One-District, One-Factory when all the roads around those factories are in a deplorable state, when there is no water to serve the factory, when there is no electricity.

“So, NDC’s preoccupation is that yes every district…in fact, every town can have one factory, if need be, but the fundamentals first.”

He was speaking on TV3‘s New Day on Tuesday.

He accused the government of unnecessarily suspending more than 90 per cent of road projects started in the Mahama-led government.

He accused the incumbent government of suspending most of the roads under the cocoa roads project introduced by the Mahama-led government.

“[But] after 15 months into the government of NPP, I dare them [to] show one contract under the cocoa road [project] that has been inflated or that has wrongly been awarded.”

He questioned the “competence” of the government, observing that after 15 months none of the 200 contracts have been reviewed.

But a Technical Economic Advisor from the Office of the Vice President, Dr Samuel Kwadwo Frimpong, said some of the road projects have seen completion under the NPP government, citing the Asikuma-Sokode road.
