African women to converge in Accra for StandOut Women’s Leadership Programme
Some women leaders from across Africa are expected to arrive in Accra for StandOut Women’s Leadership Programme slated for Saturday, December 16. The annual women’s leadership programme is to position brilliant and purpose-driven African women for professional and personal success. ‘StandOut’ is also aimed at encouraging women to leverage their leadership for the good of their communities. Previous editions of the programme have attracted CEOs, managing directors, activists, lawyers and social entrepreneurs from Ghana, Rwanda, Nigeria, USA, UK, South Africa and Kenya. Entrepreneur and founder of the StandOut Women’s Leadership Programme Yawa Hansen-Quao expressed her satisfaction over the impact on participants since its inception. “I’m very proud of the impact the ‘StandOut’ Women’s Leadership Programme is making in the lives of women across Africa. “From our recent poll of ‘StandOut’ alumnae, we found that after attending the ‘StandOut’ programme, nearly 80% of attendees either gained promotions, salary increases or began new businesses.” She added: “Nearly 76% of attendees reported stronger relationships with their spouses, bosses, colleagues or significant others as a result of strategies they learned from tactical sessions at the programme.” According to Yawa Hansen-Quao, nearly 90% of all alumnae either initiated or participated in a project to benefit their local community. She further noted how rewarding it is to have the ‘StandOut’ programme be a catalyst for change at so many levels. “StandOut unlocked the giant in me. It boosted my confidence, gave me the opportunity to learn from women leaders who were ahead of me, and taught me important skills. Above all, it exposed me to an amazing network of women. This is a great program and I recommend it to any woman who wants to help break the status quo,” Ms Audrey Abakah, a past ‘StandOut’ participant, said. After completing the StandOut programme, Audrey established a youth mentoring programme that over the years has mentored hundreds of young people in Ghana. This year’s programme scheduled for Saturday is strictly by invitation, and interested persons are expected to send an email via standout@leadingladiesnetwork.org or call +233 26 779 8427 for more details.
