The 2018 edition of the Students for Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE)-Ghana for entrepreneurs at the senior high school level has opened. Students are expected to form a team of three with a teacher as patron and submit a one-page description of a business idea as part of entry forms. Deadline is Tuesday, May 15, according to an announcement from SAGE-Ghana. The defending champions are a team from Methodist Girls School known as Grandeur with Save Sense from Early Bird School following as the runners-up. Among former winners are PRESEC-Legon and St Augustine’s College. This year’s winners will not only walk away with prizes worth $10,000 but they will also represent Ghana at the SAGE World Cup to be held in South Africa. How to be part? Immediately after the submissions of forms, the shortlisted schools will be contacted and given a coaching session ahead of the competition. Teams will be taken through the marking scheme/judging criteria, competition rules and programme format and schedule. They will have direct access to the SAGE Mentorship Team who will assist them in the preparation of their final presentation. The best teams, as per the judging criteria, will be crowned winners. According to the SAGE Ghana National Coordinator Jonathan Nsebo, “entrepreneurship must not be left to chance”. “After 61 years of independence, Ghana has no choice but to consciously nurture entrepreneurial smarts within teenagers. The hope for a better Ghana begins with entrepreneurship, and SAGE seeks to lead the way.” Therefore all high schools, old students associations, youth groups, teachers, parents, youth development organizations and donors among others are encouraged to support the cause of entrepreneurship by supporting a school/team to participate in the SAGE-National High School Entrepreneurship Competition.
