2017 Nat'l Students Awards slated for Saturday; Listowell Acquaye gets 5 nominations

This year’s National Students’ Awards is scheduled to be held on Saturday at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. The Awards is an initiative by the National Student’s Alliance. It is organised to recognise outstanding students, student leaders, corporate entities and individuals who make an effort to contribute to the development of Ghana at all levels. It is done with the help of Students Representative Councils, and student groups across the length and breadth of Ghana. The awards academy for the National Students Awards nominated Listowell Acquaye for the categories below: *Student Journalist of the Year *Student Blogger of the Year *Showbiz Personality of the Year *Student Entrepreneur of the Year *Student Personality of the Year Currently a Level 300 Communications student majoring in development  communication, Listowell Acquaye, known in showbiz circles as Chosen YesuBa, says his nomination comes as a reward for his dedication and sacrifice working as the voice of the voiceless. “Over the years, I have served as a broadcast journalist for TV3 and a blogger reporting on pertinent societal issues. My strength lies in topical features, documentaries, human interest stories and entertainment or showbiz reporting. “On human interest stories, I have travelled to some regions to unravel the depravity and challenges that confront some communities in the area of the lack of basic social amenities, health complications and poverty. “I have also crossed carpets to report on very topical issues in Politics. Covered the elections in 2016 for Media General specifically stationed at Ablekuma South. I have reported on major events over the years. Some trendy issues were the incident in Ada where Castro and Janet Bandu were reported missing at a party footballer Asamoah Gyan organised, Terrorism & Security Alert in the sub-region (the one that claimed life of Prof. Awoonor),  and a special feature on the Nkanchina Leprosarium. “Reported on several showbiz events, celebrity lifestyle, Music Awards and specials on the arts and tourism industry. “In the area of showbiz, I double as a spoken word artiste, musician and a poet. My focus is Christian Contemporary Music. Released 3 singles (GoHigherrr, Spiritual Erections, You’re A Star) and one spoken word piece(Virtuous Christian Woman)! [I am] currently working on an album. I have an annual concert that started 3 years ago titled Unity In Christ Concert aimed at empowering and inspiring the  youth to lead an exemplary life.” He got three nominations at the just-ended UMB Ghana Tertiary Awards but did not bag home any of the awards. However, he is optimistic about his chances with the current nominations. “My dream is to be the voice of the voiceless that will focus on social activism to development and change to ailing conditions and challenges in the world.” Listowell Acquaye currently writes for Ghanagist.com and hopes to win all five awards.
