1,500 pump action gun bullets seized in Bimbilla, suspect on the run

The 6 boxes of cartridges
A total of 1,500 AA and BB cartridges allegedly bound for Bimbilla in the Nanum South District of the Northern Region, have been seized by the Police in the area. Police in Bimbilla say the seizure of the cartridges was based on intelligence. The cartridges, contained in six boxes labeled ‘Trust’ and ‘Rio’, according to the police, are used for pump action guns, single and double barrel guns as well as hunting guns. Crime Officer at the Bimbila Police Station, ASP Kusi-Peprah, who confirmed the seizure to 3News, said the Police had intelligence on Saturday that a man was entering the Bimbilla township from the Oti River enclave with weapons at about 4:00pm. A team of police personnel were dispatched to the area and “upon reaching a village called Chichali, the officers met a rider who had boxes tied on his motorbike”, ASP Kusi Preprah said. The suspect, who the Police say was riding an unregistered motorbike, abandoned the bike and took to his heels on seeing the police. A search conducted by the police personnel revealed the six boxes of cartridges. The bike and the weapons have since been impounded by the Bimbilla Police which have also begun investigations into the incident. The Police say it is relying on informants to arrest the suspect.
