Tension at Ridge Hospital as Medical Director questions dismissal

Former Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital Dr Thomas Anaba is unhappy with his dismissal, which was communicated to him on Monday, May 15, two days before the commissioning of the referral facility. He was asked to hand over to Dr Emmanuel Kwabla Srofenyoh. Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise on Tuesday, May 16, Dr Anaba says his dismissal was politically motivated. “I hold the minister [of health] responsible,” he told host Winston Amoah, exonerating the government of blame, nonetheless. He said his tenure at Ridge Hospital has saved the medical facility millions of Cedis to the extent that “I saved the Hospital more than GH¢60,000 a month on vehicle purchase”. Dr Anaba began work as the Medical Director on February 1, 2016. He was supposed to serve for four years with an option to re-apply. Prior to his appointment, he was with the University of Development Studies (UDS). Dr Anaba explained that his relatively short tenure has seen substantial development in the hospital’s facilities. He cited how he brought laparoscopic equipment to the facility – the first in Ghana – from his own pocket “[but] by the help of the Korean Embassy”. “All these things I met the wrath of management that I went into [such things],” he said. He called on civil society including the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to probe further how a professional can be sacked within a “twinkle of the eye”. “I only want clarification for what I’ve done to be sacked for it to be on record because I don’t want posterity and people to be thinking and conjecturing why I left the place, so that I can also leave in peace.” Source: editors.3news.com|Ghana
