Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Yussif Chibsah, has expressed his desire for the upcoming board and management of the club to be granted a 10-year mandate.

Chibsah’s proposal comes after the expiration of Dr Kwame Kyei’s three-year board term last month, with Nana Yaw Amponsah also stepping down as Chief Executive after serving since August 2023.

While the previous administration achieved success, winning the Ghana Premier League in 2022, reports of internal disputes between Dr Kyei and Amponsah may have influenced Manhyia’s decision not to renew their mandates. As a result, a new administration is expected to be announced before the commencement of the upcoming season.

Chibsah, speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, expressed his view on the future governance of Asante Kotoko, stating, “The next Asante Kotoko board and management must be given ten years. Three-year terms for Asante Kotoko management and board are not helping the club. Kotoko was at the same point three years ago as we are today.”

Highlighting the need for stability and long-term planning, Chibsah appealed to the leadership at Manhyia, the seat of the Asante Kingdom, saying, “We have tried this method two or three times, and it’s not helping, so I am pleading with Manhyia to give the next board and management at least five to ten years. This period will help implement policies and strategies to achieve their goals and targets. Three years in football is too short.”
