World Cup play-off: Injured Wilfred Ndidi replaced in Nigeria squad

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is out of Nigeria’s squad to face Ghana in the 2022 World Cup play-off because of injury.

Ndidi who is a key player for the Super Eagles sustained the injury last Thursday during the Europa Conference League match between Leicester and Rennes.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said on Friday that Ndidi’s injury was serious and he needed weeks to recover.

Nigeria have replaced him with Innocent Bonke who plays in France for Lorient.

Nigeria will travel to Ghana for the first leg of the tie which is scheduled for Friday, March 25.

The Super Eagles will leave Abuja on Wednesday 23 March. They will lodge at the 3-star Noda Hotel in Kumasi and train at least twice before the match.

Aisha Falode, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation Executive Committee, who led a federation inspection team to Kumasi on Friday, March 18, said Ghana Football Association recommended the hotel as other major hotels in the city had been booked.

The return leg will be played four days later in Abuja at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The winner of the tie will be in Qatar for the World Cup later this year.
